Luciérnagas

Proposal for conceptual design of street lamps.

The lights have been made to resemble a sentence in braille. Each of the 4 lamps is a word in the following order: “I”, “Can, “See”, “Now”. The final line in the movie “City Lights”, in which a blind girl falls in love with a street bum played by Charles Chaplin. The piece is a metaphor of blindness and light, and it plays with the idea of a language that cannot be read only by a very limited number of people, rendering the language useless and turning it into a pure aesthetic experience rather than an opportunity to try and find meaning.
