Skin

I always wanted to create a series of paintings that used paint without actually painting with it. With this unique process I was able to do that while also exploring the dynamics of form in a subtractive way. These series were made by applying stucco over drywall and then applying 20 to 35 layers of latex based wall paint. The paint, when dry, is then cut, pulled, folded and pleated to form different abstract shapes that are somewhat geometrical and organic at once. They emanate a sense of intimacy about the physical relationship of our body with the homes we inhabit. Paint resembles skin, like a protective layer that separates the walls of what we call the self from the multiplicity of everything else which surrounds us.
